family birthday party.

when you have a family the size of mine you learn to combine birthday parties. we usually end up having a birthday celebration every two or three months. it is the perfect way to get together if we haven't seen each other in awhile. :)

our most recent party was at mom and dad's, and it was for sara, joe, and tyler. mom made sukiyaki. sukiyaki is a japanese dish that we have enjoyed many times growing up. my grandpa and grandma were missionaries in japan for 40 years, and my mom grew up there. so we have some favorite japanese dishes that we love. sukiyaki is a fun one because you cook it at the table. mom had water chestnuts, carrots, beef, cabbage, tofu, onions, and "worms" ( i don't know the correct name...they are good!)....and we cooked them in a delicious teriyaki sauce at the table. you then just take what you want and dish it out on top of your rice. i also made some potstickers for our meal....a recipe i found several years ago. a definite favorite of tyler and i's.

yummy!!
