our friday night adventure

We had a crazy night last night! We thought for a little while that we were going to deliver our baby three weeks earlier than we had thought. Here's the story....

Tyler and I went to my Dr's appointment at Lakeside at 4:15pm Friday afternoon. My appointment was actually with Jackie, Dr. Collin's np, because Dr. Collins was in the middle of a delivery. Anyway, the nurse checked my blood pressure before I met with Jackie and said it was a little high. I found out in my appointment that I am already 2-3 cm dilated and that I am 50% effaced! Yeah! I was happy to hear those things. Jackie wanted the nurse to check my blood pressure again after we talked and it was still high. She said that she was a little concerned so she wanted me to go get some lab work done just in case. She said that I should probably take it easy this weekend too.

Well, Tyler and I went to the lab, but it was closed! So, we went back up to the office and they told us we needed to go over to the ER to get the blood work done. So, I had to go through all the ER paperwork and such. I got the blood work done and we were just about to leave when Jackie called and said that she had just talked to the Dr on call and that he wanted me to go up to Labor and Delivery and have my blood pressure monitored for the evening. We were kind of surprised at this news because we didn't think that it was that serious.

We got up to labor and delivery and they put me in a room and hooked me up to all the baby monitors and the blood pressure machine. It was neat to see the baby's heartbeat on the machine. :) The nurse, Diane, was awesome....she treated us really well. She pointed out that I was having contractions, which I didn't realize that I was having. Ha. I guess they were about three - six minutes apart. We thought that was kind of strange. We were thinking that we were going to be there a couple hours or so but then she said that we were going to be there all night after talking with the Dr on call. She even mentioned something about how we would possibly need to be induced! We weren't prepared to hear that! We decided to wait to hear and what Dr. Collins said though....she was in the middle of a c-section and was going to come and talk to us when she was done. She came in our room a little before 8pm and said "well, I'm going to send you home"! She said that all my blood work and tests looked fine and that she wasn't worried about the contractions at all. She said that because I'm thin that the machine just picked up every single little contraction. She wants to keep an eye on my blood pressure though because that could be a concern, but because nothing else showed up she didn't think it was necessary for me to stay at the hospital. She gave me some blood pressure medicine and put me on bed rest. I go in again on Monday for another check-up. It sounds like I'm going to be on bed rest until the baby comes unless something changes. We'll see. We're going to ask her more about it on Monday. We are curious to see if she thinks that this means we're going to have the baby before our due date or not. She said that she wasn't going to induce me yet, she said that she didn't have reason enough to yet.

Anywho....long story! Sorry about that. I just thought I'd put it on here for those interested in hearing about our adventurous Friday night. We were beginning to think that we were going to have a baby last night after talking with the nurse. I was relieved to hear that we could go home, but also just a little bit disappointed because I had started thinking that we were going to have it already. :) But I am very glad to be home now and have some more time before our little one arrives. Tyler has been so great through it all. He's been doing a lot around the house today!

Oh Carrie, what an unexpected ordeal! It takes me back to our early delivery with our first. Are they concerned about preeclampsia? I hope you will be able to rest. I'll be praying for you and thinking of you and anxious to hear how things go on Monday. Much Love, Cristy
PS...How exciting that you are already beginning to dilate!

Carrie -
Your blog is great! Don't you love it! I wanted to share with you that I was 2-3 cm dilated for almost 2 weeks ... so it may be a little while longer before baby comes. I'm glad to hear that your blood tests came back pretty normal. Things are going to be amazing - we are predicting a boy! And sooner than later! :) Talk to you soon! LL
